“By allowing the CCP to have a platform to disseminate and legitimize their heinous crimes against humanity, NBC says that oppression, ethnic cleansing and genocide are occurring among Tibetans, Uyghurs, Hong Kong people, Taiwanese, Southern Mongols and many other communities in China. fine, ”read the statement. This is part of the # NoBeijing2022 campaign to urge companies and various companies sponsoring the games to hold China accountable for its human rights record.

Tenzin Yangzom, coordinator of SFT Grassroots, reportedly told the protest site: “As the Olympic torch is handed over from Tokyo to Beijing, the attention of the world community must be focused on how these Games will legitimize the genocide and the occupations of China. NBC has no business partnership with the Chinese government to broadcast the Olympics as the same government simultaneously commits genocide against the Uyghur people and leads an unprecedented campaign of repression in Tibet, Hong Kong and beyond. Shortly after completing the statement, the activists were ordered to disperse from the NYPD to vacate the scene.

SFT Campaigns Director Pema Dolma, in the campaign video posted online, condemned NBC for its active participation in the 2022 Games: “By February, NBC will invest millions of dollars to legitimize the leadership of the CCP in the world by elevating and putting the Beijing Olympics on a pedestal. NBC doesn’t just sponsor [the Olympics] but they will in fact actively promote legitimation and collaboration with the genocidal regime. The call is a coordinated movement led by Tibetans, Uyghurs, Hong Kongers and other allies calling for a total boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
