BSI calls for replacement of Dr BR Ambedkar statue

A delegation from the Buddhist Society of India (BSI) met with the mayor and delivered a memorandum demanding the replacement of the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar located in Ambedkar Chowk. Delegates also met with the district collector and requested a rental deed from the Dr Ambekar Memorial Hall located in Bhim Nagar. BS Jagrit, the President of the Buddhist Society of India informed that they had met Mayor Aijaz Dhebar informed him of the cracks developed in the statue of Dr Ambedkar located at Ambedkar Chowk. Delegates demanded the installation of a new statue of Dr Ambedkar. At the same time, they demanded the beautification of the square because the tiles placed in the arch fall out due to poor maintenance. He was informed that as part of the Smart City project, the great Budha talab embellishment was carried out and that a statue of Gautam Buddha three feet high was placed on the play area. Small children take a selfie with the statue and keep shoes near the statue which is an insult to Buddhist society.

In December, a delegation of 20 delegates met with the mayor and briefed him on the condition. The mayor ensured to place the statue at a height of 6 feet high on a beautifully decorated platform of granite stone. Delegates reminded him of the promise. He further informed that over the past 8-10 years, members of Buddhist society have met with the Chief Minister, SC / ST Minister and the Mayor about the preparation of the caste certificate, but at this no caste certificate has yet been issued. On Tuesday, the delegates consisting of Prakash Ramteke, the district president, Karuna Vasnik and other members met with the district collector and asked to issue a deed of lease from Dr Baba Sahab Bhim Rao Ambedkar Cultural Hall located at Bhim Nagar which was built 40 years ago. The district collector assured delegates that the documents will be handed over to them soon. Delegates present were BS Jagrit, Bhojraj Gorkhede, CD Khobragade, Neelkanth Singhade, Prakash Ramteke, Karuna Vasnik, Pramod Vasnik, Suresh Gondane, Hitesh Gayakwad and others.
