I never imagined that a village boy like me would hold the highest office in the country: Kovind

He was addressing a rally in the village of Paraunkh, which is his birthplace, in the Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh.

The Rashtrapati Bhavan tweeted that in a rare emotional gesture, after landing at the helipad near his village, Kovind bowed and touched the ground to pay homage to his homeland.

This is the first time that the president has visited his village after taking up his current post. Although he wanted to visit the place sooner, the plans could not materialize due to the pandemic, an official statement said earlier.

“I never imagined, even in my dreams, that an ordinary village boy like me would have the honor of holding the highest office in the country. But, our democratic system made it possible,” said Kovind.

“Wherever I have been today, credit goes to the soil of this village, to this region, and to your love and blessings,” he said.

The President paid tribute to BR Ambedkar, maker of the Constitution and fighter for freedom. He also visited Milan Kendra and Veerangana Jhalkari Bai Inter College and addressed Jan Sambodhan Samaroh.

“According to my family’s sanskaar (values), the oldest woman in the village has the status of mother and the older man has the status of father, regardless of caste or community. Today, I feel happy that this tradition of respecting the elders of our family continues, ”said Kovind.

He said the smell of the village soil and the memories of its people still remain etched in his heart. “For me, Paraunkh is not just a village, it is my ‘maatribhoomi’ (homeland) from which I draw inspiration to serve the country,” Kovind said.

“This inspiration took me from the High Court to the Supreme Court to Rajya Sabha. From Rajya Sabha, I went to Raj Bhavan and from there to Rashtrapati Bhavan,” said the president.

Kovind also recited a Sanskrit phrase to emphasize the pride of ‘janmabhoomi’ (place of birth), and said: “The pride of a mother giving birth (to a child) and the ‘janmabhoomi’ is greater than the sky. “

He said this as it was quite late in his visit this time around and he will try not to delay it too much next time.

The president said all people came from equal backgrounds. “There have been a number of UP prime ministers, but this is the first time the state has given the country a president. Now the path for the people of the UP to become president has been also open, ”he said.

The president said an attempt was underway to promote fitness during the Covid period. “Get vaccinated and inspire others as well. I will personally arrange for the villagers to see the Rashtrapati Bhavan. You can come and see it,” he said.

He praised Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for taking effective action to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

“Pucca” houses have been built in the village and it is nice to see the Rohaniya market, the president said, adding that he missed his classmates Jaswant Singh, Chandrabhan Singh, Dashrath Singh.

Kovind reached the village of Paraunkh on Sunday morning where he was greeted by Patel and Adityanath. He toured the village with them.

Kovind, along with his wife and daughter, also visited the Pathri Devi temple where they offered prayers.

While delivering a welcoming speech, the governor said the president has done a lot of work for the listed castes and has always stayed away from disputes.

He knows parliamentary traditions well and has fought for the oppressed all his life. He has done a lot of work for the development of the area in the tribal villages, she added.

On the occasion, Adityanath said: “The ancient traditions of India lead us towards self-reliance and discipline, and give us a specific identity in the world. It is said that there is no substitute for a mother and a homeland, I have also come to this village for the first time. “

“Our current president is a resident of Kanpur Dehat and the parliamentary seat of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is Varanasi. It is an honor that we have made plans for the development of the ancestral village of the president,” Adityanath said and announced that ‘a medical college will be built. at Kanpur Dehat.
