Indian educational institutions must regain their old reputation and make them world-class: Vice President Naidu

Bilaspur: Vice President Mr. Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday stressed the need to make educational institutions world-class and promote research and innovation to restore India’s ancient reputation.

Addressing the third convocation of Atal Bihari Vajpayee University (ABVU) Bilaspur through a pre-recorded video message, the Vice President said that he expects the university to undertake research on popular culture, traditions, arts and literature of Chhattisgarh and showcases them.

The convocation, held here in the indoor hall of Bahtarai Stadium, was chaired by State Governor Anusuiya Uikey.

Pointing out that more than 65% of the population is under 35 in the country, he said: “The dreams and hopes of the youth will shape the future of the country. After the convocation, the brilliant youth of the institute will bring laurels to themselves and the university while working in the fields that interest them.” “We have forgotten our ancient rich knowledge and our glorious tradition. We need to make educational institutions world-class to regain our old reputation. New research and innovation activities will need to be accelerated,” he said.

Emphasizing the link between higher education and new opportunities, he said that we live in a rapidly changing technological age and that we should adapt our university curriculum to modern contexts.

He noted that each tribal community in Chhattisgarh has a rich cultural and anthropological history, and said he expects the university to undertake research on popular culture, traditions, arts and literature of Chhattisgarh. ‘State and brings them to light.

The governor presided over the ceremony, during which 162 students received gold medals and diplomas. State Higher Education Minister Umesh Patel and ABVU Vice Chancellor Acharya Arun Diwakar and others also attended.
