Standing at least 26 inches from shoulder height and typically weighing well over 100 lbs, the Tibetan mastiff is known to sell for at least $ 7,000 per puppy at the low end.

In 2014, a Chinese businessman made headlines when he bought a one-year-old Tibetan mastiff for $ 1.9 million.
“They are of lion blood and are top-notch mastiff stallions,” said dog breeder Zhang Gengyun at the time.
Fiercely loyal to its family and gentle at home, the breed is known to be aloof and territorial with strangers.
In recent years, thousands of members of the breed, which was very popular among the wealthy Chinese, were abandoned and killed en masse following a collapse in demand for the breed.
