Indian weightlifter Achinta Sheuli won the country’s third gold medal in the men’s 73kg weightlifting final on Sunday by lifting a total of 313kg. This was hours after Jeremy Lalrinnunga won the second weightlifting gold medal for India. The six medals, including three gold, two silver and one bronze, were won in weightlifting.

Who is Achinta Sheuli?

Achinta was born on November 24, 2001 at Deulpur in Howrah district of West Bengal. Before coming to Birmingham, Achinta had twice won Commonwealth Championship gold medals in the past.

Achinta set a new Commonwealth Games record on Sunday by lifting 313kg at the National Exhibition Arena.

In 2021, he won a silver medal at the World Junior Weightlifting Championship.

Achinta had to endure the hardships of poverty after the death of his father. The son of a day laborer, Achinta was forced to undertake sewing and embroidery work to support his family.

Achinta is a follower of Hinduism. There is no information on whether he is married or dating anyone yet.
